Job Description Summary

Assist the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country / Track & Field Coach in overseeing the direction of the Cross Country / Track & Field programs at the NCAA Division II level. Duties include areas such as recruitment, student-athlete development, practice/meet preparation, practice/meet implementation of coaching principles, fund raising, public and alumni relations and other areas assigned by the Head Cross Country / Track & Field Coach. Additional duties include teaching activity classes in the KIP department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

• Assist the Head Cross Country / Track & Field Coach in the following areas:
• Plan, organize and administer all aspects of the operation of the Cross Country / Track & Field programs
• Recruit Cross Country / Track & Field student-athletes on a regional and national basis
• Develop and implement cross country / track & field practice sessions to meet needs for individual and team improvement
• Coordinate travel arrangements (lodging, meals, etc) for team travel
• Coordinate team gear orders
• Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to a variety of alumni, campus and off-campus groups
• Actively organize and participate in fund raising and alumni activities
• Monitor and promote the academic success of student-athletes
• Act as social media liaison for the Cross Country / Track & Field program
• Represent and act on behalf of the University as directed by the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country / Track & Field Coach
• Teach activity classes in the Department of Kinesiology & Integrative Physiology
• Other duties as assigned by Head Coach
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
• Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

● Bachelor’s Degree
● Coaching Certification

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

● Cross Country and Track & Field experience, competing at the collegiate level.
● Cross Country and Track & Field coaching experience at the collegiate level.
● Recruiting experience.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

● Familiarity with Michigan Technological University and the Cross Country / Track & Field programs, the GLIAC and the Michigan / Midwest recruiting areas
● 2 years or more collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA level
● Experience with long and mid distance events
● Masters in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or Sports Fitness Management
