Job Description Summary

As a member of the Residence Education and Housing Services team, the Residence Education Coordinator will assume a vital role in the residence life program for the growth of the individual through community living. The Residence Education Coordinator is responsible for providing and supporting student development and leadership, building community, and promoting learning in the residence halls. This is a 12-month live-in position. This position is limited to a three-year term.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

Core functional position-specific duties

1. Create a community of engaged learners in the residence halls.
2. Assist in the development, implementation, evaluation, and tracking of all materials and processes related to the residential learning model.
3. Actively engage in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for students and staff.
4. Oversee and support activities that help students develop resilience and community, based on the residential learning model.
5. Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, recognize, and provide leadership for senior resident assistants and resident assistants.
6. Maintain visibility and availability with staff and students through daily social interaction and attendance at hall functions. Support and attend department and campus events.
7. Participate in a duty rotation providing 24 hour, 365 days per year on-call responsibilities, including response to emergency situations and crisis support.
8. Advise and support residential student organizations in leadership development and initiatives.
9. Review reports related to students of concern, collaborating with other university departments to provide support.
10. Serve as a hearing officer and act as a liaison with Academic and Community Conduct.
11. Develop, propose, and manage approved programming budgets based on data and event requirements.
12. Coordinate and expand academic-related services and programs including collaboration with faculty, staff, and students, which create and enhance the living-learning environment.
13. Participate in academic interventions with students as assigned.
14. Manage and maintain a programming budget.
15. Assist with the review, updates, and maintenance of the staff crisis protocol, staff manuals, online forms, residence hall policies and procedures, web pages, etc.
16. Maintain a high level of awareness regarding the facilities of the assigned residence hall/area, including submitting and following up on work orders and communicating consistently with facilities staff.
17. Assist with summer residence hall programs and conferences.
18. Assist with the coordination of openings, closings, and break transitions of the residence halls.
19. Perform other mission-critical and position-specific duties as requested based on operational needs (e.g., all-hands-on-deck events such as orientation, welcome week, homecoming, commencement, and other university traditions).
20. Ensure that residence hall safety and security procedures are established and maintained.
21. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor’s degree

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Two years residence life experience as an undergraduate or graduate resident assistant (or equivalent) or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

● Master’s Degree in student affairs/student development/higher education or related field.
● Previous experience working with a residential curriculum.
● Previous experience supervising undergraduate students.
● Previous experience advising student organizations in a higher education setting.
● Previous experience in student affairs working with specialized housing such as a living learning community, residence hall programming, diversity education, academic or learning services, or judicial affairs experience.

● Commitment to providing support to historically marginalized groups including students of color, first generation college students, LGBTQIA+ / transgender and gender nonconforming populations, and students of all abilities.

● Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentation skills.
● Ability to function independently as a self-starter while operating effectively within a team environment.

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
● The nature of the position necessitates engaging within a residential community, providing support to students during irregular hours on nights and weekends. This position also participates in an on call duty rotation with staff ensuring 24/7/365 emergency response coverage.
● Moving small- to medium-sized boxes of materials in and out office during special events
● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk up and down stairs.
● Day to day work occurs in an office situated in an undergraduate residence hall setting amongst living spaces for students.
● Evening and weekend hours for this position may be required during peak housing periods such as opening (fall, spring, summer), break periods (Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks), and closing (fall, spring, and summer). During the month of August, staff should anticipate a high demand workload in preparation for the opening of the academic year. Time off requests for the month of August are typically unable to be approved.
