This will include the building, designing, calibrating, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting of electronic equipment and components. This position will also provide general support to the Great Lakes Research Center and Marine Research Assets Facility in light mechanics, equipment maintenance and repair, and marine-based field work. Responsibilities • Electronics fabrication• Equipment troubleshooting and repair• Marine vessel electrical equipment maintenance• Building and calibrating electrical components for use in scientific research instruments• GLRC research project support• General support of Marine Research Assets Facility• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.• Provide exceptional support for researchers• Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. Required Education, Certifications, Licensures • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field• Valid driver’s license Required Experience • Minimum of 20 years experience in electrical instrumentation, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance• Minimum of 20 years experience in radio-frequency hardware installation, maintenance, repair, and design• Minimum of 20 years experience in board-level electronic troubleshooting and repair, and soldering• Experience as a vehicle mechanic• Experience managing multiple, simultaneous projects Desirable Education and/or Experience • 30+ years of post-graduation experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities • Ability to maintain and repair electrical equipment• Ability to maintain and repair radio-frequency hardware• Ability to conduct board-level repairs and soldering• Ability to maintain and light repairs of engines• Computer troubleshooting• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and to Canada, which requires possession of a valid driver's license and U.S. passport.• Willingness to work non-traditional hours to meet deadlines• Exceptional organizational skills• Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills• Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions with limited supervision Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities • Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints• Ability to participate in ITAR regulated research• Experience acting as a project lead Work Environment and/or Physical Demands WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
