The position will provide engineering technical support for activities underway at the Center for Technology & Training, which includes work with the Michigan Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), the Great Lakes Environmental Infrastructure Center (GLEIC), the Bridge Load Rating Program, the Roadsoft asset management software package, and other research projects. The position requires a strong background in civil engineering (roads or bridges). Responsibilities • Organize, coordinate, facilitate and/or lead continuing education and outreach webinars, workshops, conferences, and other training events at a variety of locations throughout Michigan• Create, design, and present transportation related training materials at webinars, workshops, and conferences throughout Michigan and nationally• Participate in research related activities awarded to the Center for Technology & Training (CTT) in conjunction with other staff and faculty, including proposal writing, conducting research, planning and management of research projects, report preparation, and presentation of findings on an as-needed basis• Provide engineering technical assistance to Michigan’s local agencies on transportation related issues on an as needed basis• Provide technical expertise for engineering related software development projects• Deliver program-related presentations to clients and related professional organizations • Participate on committees, councils, and task forces of related public and private entities• Functional supervision may be exercised over support staff and student assistants Required Education, Certifications, Licensures • Bachelor’s degree from ABET accredited college in civil engineering with strong background in transportation (construction, geotechnical, structural, pavements, or transportation)• Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam Required Experience • A minimum of two years experience in design, construction, or planning of transportation projects• Professional experience using Microsoft Office products Desirable Education and/or Experience • Advanced degree• Michigan Professional Engineer License or ability to secure one through reciprocity• Experience developing and presenting training material for adult audiences as a subject matter expert• Experience in writing proposals and/or technical research reports• Experience in project management• Experience with projects at the county, city, or state level Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities • Excellent oral/written communication skills• Excellent interpersonal, customer service, organizational skills• Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail• Demonstrated ability to work independently and take the initiative to solve problems• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work flexible hours• Demonstrated ability and willingness to devote up to 15% of time to travel• Possess a valid driver’s license and meet Michigan Tech University’s vehicle use requirements Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities • Demonstrated ability to speak before large and small groups of people• Demonstrated success in working with persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
