Summary

The Coordinator of the Center for Educational Outreach is responsible for the development and implementation of high-impact educational outreach programming with a special focus on coordination of Michigan Tech's renowned Summer Youth Programs. Working closely with both internal and external partners, the Coordinator creates engaging collaborative, innovative, and supportive curriculum and activities that further the mission and outreach goals of the University.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties

● Assist CEO team with coordination and execution of Summer Youth Programs, Mind Trekkers, and Unboxed Challenges, including programmatic design and implementation, liaising with partner schools and organizations, and providing student support.
● Propose and develop innovative programs for K-12 youth that enable career discovery, increase college access, and foster interest in STEM disciplines.
● Coordinate pre- and post-program development and execution, including application management, system interfacing, logistical planning, day-to-day operation, and program evaluation.
● With the support of the Assistant Director and Director, coordinate new and existing recruitment strategies for precollege student enrollment in Summer Youth Programs, such as direct school outreach, attendance at tabling events and fairs, etc.
● Coordinate the execution of Lead Staff training and Orientation planning and execution, including schedule development, identification of training topics and guest speakers, etc..
● Oversee the recruitment, interviewing, training, assigning and prioritizing duties, and supervision of temporary program staff and student coordinators as needed.
● Assist with program marketing, including the creation of promotional materials, website management, social media engagement, blog content, and presentations to a variety of audiences as needed.
● Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external constituents, including students, teachers, parents, faculty, etc., as well as partner entities such as schools, corporations, student organizations, and other agencies. Engage and build collaborative cross-campus partnerships, including serving on relevant committees and task forces as appropriate.
● Prepare and compile reports on program impact, reach, budgets, and other criteria as needed.
● Contribute to the creative vision and strategic planning of outreach programming, special events, and activities; provide assistance and support in the development of new initiatives of the Center for Educational Outreach.
● Work frequent non-traditional hours, including occasional weekends and holidays, and willingness to travel occasionally.
● Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

● Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
● Active First Aid/CPR certification.

Required Experience

● At least two years of experience working directly with K-12 youth in an educational setting.
● Experience working with youth in short-term programming.
● Experience working with overnight supervision of youth in a residential setting.
● Experience supervising college-aged student employees and leaders.
● Demonstrated experience with event planning and execution.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

● Familiarity with the programs currently administered in the department.
● Experience conducting non-traditional educational programs and outreach/event planning.
● Experience working with middle and high school students.
● Experience working with diverse groups of students.
● Certificate in and or direct training with primary/secondary education.

● Willingness to undergo vigorous safety training and background/criminal records checks.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

● Demonstrated ability to apply a creative nature to job duties.
● Advanced knowledge of CampDoc software.
● Experience using advanced features of Google Suite, Banner, Qualtrics, WebFOCUS, and presentation software.
● Positive attitude toward innovation, creativity, and a sense of humor.
