Summary

Professor Lei Pan's group at Michigan Technological University is seeking a research technician to advance both circular economy and sustainability of critical raw materials from both primary resource and secondary resources. This position will be working within MTU's upgraded mineral processing and hydrometallurgy labs and working closely with research staff and students on various sponsored projects.

Responsibilities 

  • • Operate various bench-scale and pilot-scale mineral processing and hydrometallurgical unit operations including froth flotation, grinding, atmospheric leaching, high-pressure oxidative leaching, chemical precipitation, vacuum filtration, pressure filtration, drying, ion exchange, rotary evaporation, centrifuge, and many other unit operations.
    • Responsible for material and supply acquisition.
    • Work closely with mechanic staff on equipment repair and maintenance.
    • Assist a team of research scholars and graduate students during pilot­scale trials.
    • Record, organize, and preserve the data.
    • Develop, review, and keep records of job safety analysis documents.
    • Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures

  • BS in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or closely relevant areas.

Required Experience

  • Experience in operating bench-scale wet experiments in a laboratory setting.

Desirable Education and/or Experience

  • 3 years of working experience in mineral processing and metallurgical laboratories.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

  • Knowledge in mineral processing engineering and hydrometallurgy.
  • Insert Safety Language. **

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge in mineral processing and hydrometallurgy.
• Skilled in operating various lab-scale mineral processing and hydrometallurgy unit operations.
• An ability to work with a team of research staff and students to operate pilot­scale operations.
• Proven problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
