Postdoctoral Scholar, in Dissolved Organic Matter-Based Microbial Fuel Cells Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
Michigan Technological University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to contribute to an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of marine microbial ecology, environmental microbiology, and environmental and marine engineering. This project is part of a large interdisciplinary team aimed at developing a system for conversion of marine dissolved organic matter into electricity using microbial fuel cells. We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate who can coordinate efforts to design, construct, test, optimize and characterize the ability of innovative microbial fuel cells to produce electricity from dissolved organic matter in marine environments at bench, pilot, and full scales.

Michigan Technological University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to contribute to an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of marine microbial ecology, environmental microbiology, and marine engineering. This project is part of a large interdisciplinary team aimed at developing a system for conversion of marine dissolved organic matter into electricity using microbial fuel cells. We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate to lead efforts to develop a microbial consortium that can be used in a microbial fuel cell for conversion of marine organic matter to electricity. This candidate will perform experiments to better link the extent to which dissolved organic matter composition and microbial community composition interact to determine dissolved organic carbon biodegradability and potential for electricity generation in a microbial fuel cell. The successful candidate will have previous experience with marine microbial ecology, anaerobic microbiology, and/or microbial community characterization.

Assistant Research Scientist - Environmental Remote Sensing SAR Specialist Michigan Tech Research Institute (Ann Arbor, MI)
This Assistant Research Scientist – Environmental Remote Sensing SAR Specialist position provides support for MTRI programs focused land cover classification around the Great Lakes region and the Congo. Experience with GIS analysis and processing SAR and Lidar data for environmental science research is required, as is significant experience with geospatial Python programming. Applicants must also have experience with applying photogrammetry to UAV collected imagery. The applicant will be expected to apply their knowledge of sensing and image processing to assist in the development of research questions and/or research programs. The applicant will be expected to participate in challenging field work that collects ground truth data for informing algorithms based on remote sensing data. Assistant Teaching Professor of Music (Bands) Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Michigan Technological University seeks a dynamic musician-educator to fill the position of instructional-track assistant teaching professor of music (Bands) starting August 2025. Michigan Tech has a growing and innovative band program with a 200-member pep band, an auditioned wind symphony, a non-auditioned concert band, two large jazz ensembles, and a New Orleans-style brass band. This position entails overseeing and advising the Pep Band, directing the R&D Jazz Band, coaching jazz combos, and may include conducting the Campus Concert Band. Other activities will include teaching courses in music (Jazz History, Music Appreciation, other courses depending on expertise), directing/coaching chamber ensembles, advising student organizations, and participating in regional tours.

This position serves as a technical expert in structural engineering of transportation infrastructure. This position will work as part of a team that provides training and customer support to bridge-owning-agency engineers and their consultants on the use of AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software and theory and policy regarding bridge load ratings. They will also engage with other structural engineers and computer programmers to provide interpretation of MDOT and AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications. This position is also responsible for conducting small research projects in fields related to transportation infrastructure.
