The STEM Success Coordinator is a dynamic professional staff member in Student Support and Mentorship under the Waino Wahtera Center for Student Success. This position is responsible for promoting and driving the mission of Student Support and Mentorship to optimize the success of all students. Student Support and Mentorship provides students with an extra hand in understanding their academics, social support, and how to navigate their time on the Michigan Tech campus. Student Support and Mentorship engages in intentional outreach and program development that fosters belonging and retention, enabling academic thriving, graduation, and post-graduation opportunities in the workforce or pursuing advanced degrees. Under the supervision of the director of Student Support and Mentorship and secondary supervision from the PI of the Scholarships in Science Technology, Engineering, and Math (S-STEM) grant, the coordinator is responsible for implementing and assessing programs and events that align with the departmental and unit mission. This includes collaborating with program directors and other university departments to deliver local and national career and professional development opportunities. The coordinator will also provide outreach to new students, introducing them to center resources and other support across campus. The ideal individual must be committed to a student-centered philosophy, engagement, and practices, and be a strong collaborator. This position is partially funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation, which extends through the 2029-2030 academic year.

The Director of Thompson Scholarship Programs provides leadership and administration for the Thompson Working Families Scholarship, a large and robust scholarship program providing gift financial aid to students at Michigan Tech. This program serves 350 students on Michigan Tech’s campus and will grow to serve up to 700 students. Working as part of a core leadership team reporting up through Enrollment Management, the Director will serve as part of the core leadership enrollment team. This individual and their team works hand-in-hand with financial aid, admissions, and educational outreach to contribute to the strategic direction of enrollment at Michigan Tech. The Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program including strategic planning, managing all programming and support initiatives, and overseeing all daily operations of the program. This includes assisting financial aid as needed, contributing to enrollment management strategies for recruiting and identifying scholars, establishing practices and policies to monitor the academic progress and completion of scholarship requirements.
Structural Engineer Main Campus (Houghton, MI)
This position serves as a technical expert in the structural engineering of bridges and culverts. This position will work as part of a team that provides training and customer support to bridge owners and their engineers/consultants on bridge design, load rating, and asset management. This position is also responsible for conducting small applied research projects in fields related to transportation infrastructure. This position serves as an advocate and technical resource for Michigan’s local (city, village, county) transportation agencies and will provide technical support for activities underway at the Center for Technology & Training, which includes work with the Michigan Local Bridge Load Rating and Inspection Support program and the Michigan Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP). The position requires a background in structural engineering.
